Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood is the home base for MWUX18. Lakeview overlaps with the city's LGBTQ district, Wrigleyville, and our largest public park, Lincoln Park. The neighborhood is home to 12 theatre spaces, 11 music venues, and scores of restaurants, breweries, drag bars, karaoke joints, arcades, and coffee shops.
The Athenaeum Theater
This year, the Athenaeum Theatre will be the conference's main venue. This 100 year old theater is ornate, spacious, and has a community-focused mission—a perfect fit for MidwestUX. The Athenaeum has served as a recreation center, high school, and temporary church, and it now provides a space for the arts, educational, and social service communities.
Schubas has been entertaining Lakeview music fans for decades. Built in 1903 as part of a Schlitz Brewery project, the building is a neo-Gothic treasure that's become a neighborhood landmark. Schubas’ music room will provide an intimate setting for MWUX presentations, and the bar will offer more casual seating and a livestream of all the on-stage action.
Tied House will host lunch, presentations, and social events for this year’s conference. Opened in February, this beautiful new restaurant features James Beard Award-winning chef Debbie Gold, a courtyard with a giant outdoor fireplace, and dazzling modern architecture that somehow feels right at home next to its neighbor, Schubas.
1871 will host workshops and our opening reception. Named for Chicago's rebirth from the ashes of the great fire, 1871 is the hub of innovation and entrepreneurship in Chicago, and an important part of the Chicago UX community.
